In this half-day demonstration, Richard Schmid, represented by West Wind Fine Art since 1998, will answer the question that was recently posed to him by one of Europe’s premier portraitists: "What is your secret of painting?” Schmid will do this by demonstrating and explaining his approach to painting a still life. This will include revealing how he accesses “the richest possible source of subject matter and inspiration,” as well as sharing techniques for controlling the painting surface, achieving a variety of edges, and painting with a palette knife.

In this lecture and presentation, Nancy Guzik, represented by West Wind Fine Art, will start by showing paintings of still lifes and children as created by the great masters of the past. Guzik will explain what she has learned from studying the masters and how she applies that understanding to her painting today. She will then show step-by-step sequences of her paintings, emphasizing the thought process that directs good painting.
